GAS AND OIL FILL-UP f

IMPORTANT:Thisunit isshippedwithoutgasolineoroil intheengine.

Becertainto serviceenginewithgasolineandoilas instructedinthis

sectionbeforestartingor runningyourmachine.

Oil (one 18 ounce bottle shipped with unit)

FirstTime Use

1. Removeoilfill dipstick(G). See Figure5.

2. Withthe moweron levelground,emptyentirecontentsof oil bottle

providedintothe engineoil fill (H).

3. Replaceoilfill dipstickandtighten.

Subsequent Uses

Use4-strokemotoroil thatmeetsor exceedsthe requirementsfor API

servicecategorySF,SG,SH,SJ or later.Alwayscheckthe APIservice

labelonthe oilcontainerto besure itincludesthe lettersSF,SG,SH,

SJ orlater.

Outdoortemperaturesdeterminethe properoilviscosityfor the engine.

Usethechartto selectthe bestviscosityfor the outdoortemperature

rangeexpected.

* Below40°F(4°C)theuseofSAE30willresultinhardstarting.

** Above80°F(27°C)theuse of 10W-30maycauseincreasedoil

consumption.Checkoil levelmorefrequently.

1. Checktheoil withthe enginestoppedandlevel.

2. Removetheoil fill dipstickandwipe it clean.

3. Insertandtightenthe oilfill dipstick.Removeit to checkthe oil

level.See Figure5.

4. If theoil levelis nearor belowthe lowerlimitmarkon the dipstick,

removethe oil fill dipstick,andfill withthe recommendedoil to the

upperlimitmark(J). Donot overfill.

5. Reinstallthe oilfill dipstick.

Gasoline

Do notuse unapprovedgasolines,suchas E85.Do not mixoilin

gasolineormodifyengineto runonalternatefuels.Thiswill damage

the enginecomponentsandvoid the engine warranty.

Fuelmustmeet these requirements:

• Clean,fresh,unleadedgasoline.

• Aminimumof87octane/87AKI (91RON).

• Gasolinewith upto 10%ethanol(gasohol)or upto 15%MTBE

(methyltertiarybutylether)is acceptable.

Refuelina well-ventilatedareawiththe enginestopped.Ifthe engine

hasbeenrunning,allowitto cool first.Neverrefuelthe engineinsidea

buildingwheregasolinefumesmayreachflamesor sparks.

Gasolineis highlyflammableandexplosive,andyou can be

burnedor seriouslyinjuredwhenrdueling. Stopengineandkeep

heat,sparks,andflameaway.Refuelonlyoutdoors.Wipe upspills

immediately.

Ifyour equipmentwill be usedonan infrequentorintermittentbasis,

pleasereferto the Off SeasonStoragesectionforadditionalinforma-

tion regardingfuel deterioration.

NOTE:Fuelcan damagepaintand sometypesof plastic.Becareful

notto spillfuel whenfillingyour fueltank.

Neverusestaleorcontaminatedgasolineor oil/gasolinemixture.

Avoidgettingdirt or waterin the fueltank.

1. Removethe fueltankcap.

2. Fillthe fuel tankwith fuel.To allowforexpansionof the fuel,do

notfill abovethe bottomof the fuel tankneck.Do notoverfill.

Wipeupspilledfuel beforestartingtheengine.

3. Installthe fuel tankcapandtightenit until it clicks.

4. Movelawnmowerat least10feetawayfromthe fuel container/

sourceandsitebeforestartin( me.

Besurenooneotherthan the operatoris standingnearthe lawn

mowerwhilestartingengineoroperatingmower.Neverrunengine

indoorsor inenclosed,poorlyventilatedareas.Engineexhaust

containscarbonmonoxide,anodorlessanddeadlygas.Keephands,

feet, hairand looseclothingawayfromany movingpartson engine

andlawnmower.
