BELT REPLACEMENT
NOTE:Toaid inreassembly,notethe orientationof the drivebelton
thetwo idlerpulleysandthe engineflywheelpulleypriorto performing
thefollowingsteps.Referto Figure17.
Theedgerdrivebelt issubjectto wearand shouldbe replacedif any
signsof cracking,shreddingor rottingarepresent.To replacethebelt,
proceedas follows:
1. Workingin frontof the edger,loosenthe flangelock nuton topof
frame,allowingthe idlerpulleyassemblyto pivotslightlyout from
theframe.SeeFigure17.

Withyour otherhand,carefullyreachunderthe rearof the edger
andremovethe belt fromaroundthe engineflywheelpulley.See
Figure17.

Removethe spindlesheavesbelt guardby removingthe two
self-tappingscrewswhichsecureit to the bladeplateassembly.

4. Carefullyremovethebelt fromoffof the pulleys,againmaking
sureto notetheorientationof the belt.Discardthe belt.See
Figure18.
5. Workingfromthe frontof the edger,placethe belt ontothe spindle
sheaves,routeit backontothetop andbottomidlerpulleys,and
then placeit ontothe engineflywheelpulley.
NOTE:Makecertainthatthe "V" sideof thebeltisseatedintothetop
pulleyandthe flatside of the beltis seatedintothe bottompulley.See
Figure18.
6. Reinstallthe spindlesheavesbeltguardwiththe selftapping
screwsremovedearlier.
7. Makecertainthatthe drivebelt is onthe engineflywheelpulley
and idlerpulleys,and retightenthe flangelocknuton thetop of
the frame.
NOTE:Makecertainthatthe drivebelt is seatedcorrectlyandthatit
is ridingsmoothlyon the spindlesheavesandis notpinchedbetween
them. Repeatthe firstthree stepsif the belt is pinched.
Neveroperatetheedgerwithoutthe spindlesheavesbeltguardin
place.
