ToStart Engine
1. Movethebladedepthcontrolleverbackto theSTARTpositioninthe
adjacent(top)notch.
2. Pushtheprimerthreetimes.SeeFigure9.Donotprimeto restartawarm
engine.
NOTE:Ifyoupushtheprimertoomanytimes,excessivefuelwill floodthe
carburetorandtheenginewill bedifficultto start.
3. Standingbehindtheedger,depressthebladecontrolandholdit againstthe
upperhandlewithyourleft hand.
Thisblade controlmechanismisasafetydevice.Neverattempt to bypass
itsoperation.
4. Withyourfight hand,grasprecoilstarterhandleandpullropeslowlyuntil
resistanceis felt,thenpullwith arapid,continuous,full armstroke.See
Figure9.Keepingafirm griponthestartercordhandle,lettheroperewind
slowly.Repeatuntil enginecranks.Lettheroperewindeachtimeslowly.
Keepa firm grip onthe cordhandleandmaintain sufficient backward
tensionon the cordat all timesto preventrapidstartercordretraction
(kickback).Rapidretraction canpullarmand handtowardthe engine
fasterthan you canlet go,and resultin brokenbones,fractures,bruisesor
sprains.
ToStop Engine
1. Releasebladecontrolto stoptheengineandblade.
Edging
Rotatingcutting blade maythrow objectscausingpersonalinjury.Keep
areaclearof bystandersand donotoperatewithout guardsinplace.
Donot lowerblade if bladeisoverconcrete,asphalt,rocksorthe like. Blade
canstrikesupporting surface,resultinginpersonalinjuryor property
damage.
Tobeginedging,proceedasfollows:
1. Moveedgerto anareato beedged,makingsurethattheleft rearwheelison
ahardsurfaceandthebladeisovertheareato becut.SeeFigure10.

2. Withthebladecontrolsqueezedagainstthe handleintheoperating
position,makea passalongareato beedgedbeforeproceedingto thenext
notch.Thefurtherforwardthat thebladedepthcontrolleverismoved,the
deeperorlowerthebladewill cutintotheground.Severalpassesmaybe
necessaryto obtainthedesireddepthof cut.Donotlowerblademorethan
onedepthnotchata timewithout makingapass.
3. Forbestresults,proceedslowlyalongthe pathbeingedged.Slowlymove
edgerbackandforththroughcuttingarea,againmakingsureto keepthe
left rearwheelonthehardsurfaceandthebladeinthecuttingpath,closeto
butnottouchingthe edgeof thehardsurface.
4. Onceyouhavefinishededgingselectedarea,raisethebladedepthcontrol
leverbackintotheSTARTposition,moveto thenextareato beedged,and
proceedagainfromstep1.
